Happy Mother’s Day to all of the moms, stepmoms, dog moms, moms-in-law, and mom figures out there. I hope your family spoiled you rotten today and treated you to all of the things you love doing. I am coming to you a bit later in the day than normal; we got back from New York late Thursday night, and I’ve been catching up on work since then, although I spent the afternoon today at the Pickwick Vintage Show—it was my first time and definitely won’t be my last.
Next week’s newsletter will be a gluttonous recap of everything that I wanted to buy in NYC and I promise it will be worth the wait. But first, here’s what I actually did buy.

As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, there was an Isabel Marant sample sale happening literally around the corner from where we were staying, and I may have been so excited, I did not sleep well the night before. I was a little rusty on how to shop sample sales, as it’s been 12 years since I’ve lived in NYC. Like a rookie, I showed up right at 10 a.m. and ended up waiting in line (in the rain!) for 75 minutes. But the sale was entirely worth the wait. I hauled 12 items to the fitting room (communal style), culled it down to 5, then ended up abandoning a couple of T-shirts at the last minute because they were $70(!!!) each. I had given myself a spending limit of $500, and I’m happy to report I stayed under it. None of the above items was on my shopping list, but the skirt matches the top I’m wearing here, so now I have a matching set, yay! The printed blouse is really flattering on, and it’s similar to one of my favorite dresses of hers (I’m wearing it in this post). And the embroidered tunic was a bit of a splurge—it’s from the collection, not Étoile—but it’s very me and I will wear the hell out of it. I would have liked to pick up a bag (the colors they had were very specific), but otherwise I was very happy with my haul.

Backing up a bit, we arrived late Friday night and it was apparently the first really warm day of the year, and you could tell because everyone was out. This continued into Saturday—it was a perfect 75 degrees and sunny—and it felt like everyone in the entire city was day drinking in the West Village. I dragged Sean to my favorite old newsstand, Casa Magazines, which was hosting a Roxanne Assoulin popup and I don’t know what happened next but I blacked out and bought the above necklace, because I am powerless to resist a customization experience. It felt like kismet, because Roxanne Assoulin’s ads have been following me around the Internet for months. I also feel like paracord necklaces are going to be a huge trend this year, and while my necklace wasn’t cheap, it was way more affordable (and cuter!) than the Dorsey paracords.

I spent my last full day in the city wandering south along Fifth Avenue from the park all the way to Union Square. I started at Bergdorf’s, which was a window-shopping-only situation, and got lucky at Uniqlo, where I found this blazer from the Uniqlo-C collection (designed by Claire Waight Keller, formerly of Chloé and Givenchy!) on sale. It’s unlined and light as air yet sharply tailored—I plan on taking it on my next trip, which I leave for in 6 days(!). More on that next week. 😉
This week on the blog
I always agonize over what to pack for NYC and in this case, said f*ck it and took a checked bag. I brought way too much stuff, but overall felt very happy with my outfits for this trip. I managed to capture everything I wore in NYC in either mirror-selfie or professional (e.g. Sean) shot; please forgive my rambling, jet-lagged descriptions!
Thank you for reading!
