7 days of real outfits, spring edition
What I've actually been wearing IRL, mirror-selfie style.
I was reading a Substack the other day in which the author noted how when it comes to outfits, this platform is all about the IRL mirror selfie versus the blogs of years ago in which you’d shoot seven outfits in an hour and post a new one every day like that’s how you actually dressed. I definitely put a lot more thought into the outfits I shoot professionally—for one, I’m paying my photographer so I have to make them count, and two, they’re usually for sponsored and/or monitized work, so they need to look a little more polished. Most days, however, I’m just working from home, and while I’m very cognizant of not wanting to fall into a sweatpants rut, I do want to be comfortable. Here’s what I’ve actually been wearing lately, when the weather has been 75 degrees and sunny one day, 55 and depressingly cloudy the next.
Ladylike AF
I wore this to an art fair opening (a yearly event my friend once called “the least VIP VIP event in San Francisco” due to the amount of comp tickets they give out); I was going for “yes, I can afford all of this” even though I absolutely cannot right now. P.S. I wear these pants year round—I don’t believe in the no white after Labor Day rule, which btw department stores made up so that people would buy new fall clothes when it was still hot outside.

Fool’s spring
In spite of the confused look on my face, I was actually quite happy to break out this new Old Navy dress (from my shopping list) and sandals for the first time this year. This dress is super comfy and gives your girls a little va-va-voom (seriously, I wore this out to dinner with my girlfriends and they all told me how amazing my boobs looked).

Coastal beatnik, part 1
According to Clotheshorse and An Unapologetic Woman (two recent favorite Substacks btw—you should subscribe to both), Coastal Beatnik is trending on TikTok and I’ve never felt a silly social media trend more deeply in my bones. I feel like this look is kind of that—it’s a little bit hippie, a little bit urbane, and very me.
Matching set
I wore this to a vintage show with my Ganni leopard-print coat over it; there’s always a bit of peacocking at events like that, so I wanted to make somewhat of an effort. This set is from Zara from a few years ago, but I wear it all the time and it gets so many compliments (plus you can mix and match the pieces with other stuff).

Coastal beatnik, part 2
Every time I buy something from Toteme, I’m surprised by how much I love it; this crepe blouse is a couple sizes too big (I bought it at UAL in New Orleans last year) but it’s one of my all-time favorite tops. And in case you haven’t noticed by now, I am a Nili Lotan stan, especially when it comes to her pants. They fit incredibly well (although I went down a size in these and two sizes in the Shon above) and they make me look a lot cooler than I am.

Deceptive comfort
This outfit may look fancy, but it’s so freaking comfy. I wore it to the ballet and felt like I was in my pajamas. The top is a sweatshirt, but no one will notice when you wear a big chonky necklace with it (mine is vintage). The skirt is old Isabel Marant and made out of track-pants material. As for the sandals, a full review is coming to the blog next week.

Housedress
I know it doesn’t look like much, but I absolutely love this dress and I wear it all the time in warmer weather. I bought it at the Powell Street H&M (RIP) early in the pandemic when the store re-opened but you weren’t allowed to try anything on. It is one of the most un-restricting garments I own, and it’s just so flowy and fabulous. PS those are indeed (some of) my shoes; I was mid closet cleanout when I took this.

This week on the blog
It’s my last trend report for spring, and while lacy white tops aren’t really a trend per se, they are according to me. The blouse I’m wearing is sold out in white (still available in black though), but I’ve got six more great options waiting for you.

I’d love the one month free for the love list! 🩷
A lot of great looks but alas, not meant for my 70's age body! lol. I love the sweatshirt with the fringe on you. I don't know if I ever had the guts to wear that, for me, it's just too much "in your face". I always want to look nice and pulled together, but I never really want to call attention to myself. That cream colored sweater and skirt set looks fantastic on you!
