What's on my spring shopping list
The 7 things I can't wait to buy, plus what I'm wearing now.
I am really excited to be writing this post, and I think the universe is supportive of it, because all of a sudden it really feels like spring. I mean, it is now officially spring according to the calendar, but it’s stopped raining (for now), things are blooming, and I have a full-blown case of the shoppies. This figures, because I’m on a fairly tight budget at the moment, but I’m trying to be very intentional with what I buy this year. I’ve been sticking to my shopping list pretty religiously…but TBH, the list is getting kind of long. Here are 7 things I’ve recently added to it.
Aligne Daphne Blazer $245
I have been seeing and reading about this blazer everywhere; the Scandi street-style stars are a big fan of it. It comes in a bunch of tasteful neutrals, as well as knit and sleeveless versions, but I’m gravitating toward the butter yellow, which is going to be a huge (HUGE!) trend for spring. It’s also a color I don’t currently have in my wardrobe.
Anthropologie Tilda Mini Slip Skirt, Lace Trim Edition $88
I’ve also been seeing lace-trimmed slip dresses everywhere, including on Leandra Medine, and while I love the idea of something so soft and feminine and boho, it evokes one of my cardinal rules of shopping: know thyself. Slip dresses equal strapless bras, and that’s a dealbreaker for me. Thankfully there are many skirt-only takes on the trend, including this very well-priced version from Anthro. (It also comes in butter yellow, if you want to kill two trends with one stone.)
Gap Factory Oversized Western Sweatshirt $41.99 (currently on sale from $69.99)
A beige version of this sweatshirt from regular Gap had been following me around the Internet for months; sadly, my size was sold out and it has since disappeared from Gap’s site. Lo and behold, I started getting ads for the Gap Factory version; the beige has already sold out(!!!) but this time I’m not letting it get away—this one’s in my cart and ready to go!
J.Crew Stratus pant in textured satin $98 (currently on sale from $148)
I came across these while looking for the elusive perfect wide-leg gray pant, and while I’m not thrilled with the elastic waistband (too casual!), I am intrigued by the crinkled fabric, which apparently is travel-friendly. It is also supposedly a dupe for The Row’s Gala pant, if that appeals to you.
Marant Etoile Tianny dress $795
Are you impressed that I made it this far without including something by Isabel Marant? I am too. I saw this dress in person at the SF store a few weeks ago and it’s been living rent-free in my head since then, with a few other items from the current collection. This is way out of my budget at the moment and entirely too much money to spend on something white…but if it drops to 50% off, I’m going for it.
H&M Fringed Suede Loafers $99
Ok, I know these seem rather pricey for H&M—and they are—but they’re actual suede, and they’re much cheaper than the Tod’s Gommino loafers I’ve been obsessed with since last year. More importantly, they’re a boho interpretation of the classic loafer, which makes them feel fresh to me.
A.P.C. Le Neige bag $550
All of the fashion people are obsessed with the Alaia Le Teckel bag and all of its east-west brethren, but where others zig, I zag. Give me a big, slouchy tote any day, especially one that fits your laptop, water bottle, extra sweater, and whatever else you need for spring. Plus, A.P.C. bags are a really good value for the price, which reminds me, I need to get my beloved demi-lune out of storage.
This week on the blog
It’s officially spring…but doesn’t always feel like it. So this week, I have some ideas on how to dress for spring when the weather isn’t always cooperating.
